The origins of Fukui’s eyewear industry lie in Masunaga Optical. What began in the snowy land of Fukui during the Meiji period as a way to “make glasses to save the local community” has evolved into a product that has captivated the world. This exhibition will showcase 11 archive frames for the first time since the company’s founding in 1905, showcasing the artisanal skills and innovations that have been woven throughout the ages. This exhibition is centered around Masunaga Eyeglasses’ belief that “the next masterpiece is the next one” while preserving tradition. In addition, works by Saki Maeda and Kenta Kobayashi, the first and second artists to collaborate in the “MASUNAGA1905 meets ARTISTS” art project launched to commemorate the company’s 120th anniversary, will also be on display. The event will feature an exhibition of the new “Edition 120” collection, unveiled to mark the 120th anniversary of the company’s founding, as well as a space where visitors can try on frames from the 2025 F/W collection, providing an experience where art and craftsmanship resonate with each other. In addition, the venue will feature a bar counter where visitors can sample Fukui Prefecture’s specialty products and wines from wineries, allowing visitors to experience the culture and sensibility of Fukui, the company’s birthplace, with all five senses. These three special days will connect the past, present, and future of Masunaga Eyewear, a crossroads of creativity that transcends genres.
