Clenazm’s new song “yellow” was released digitally on October 29th, and a lyric video was also released. Following on from their previous work, the video was produced by Shirabei, whose character design, which evokes the coexistence of power and shadow, is distinctive. This song, the second of three consecutive releases, symbolizes the protagonist’s fluctuating emotions with a “traffic light.” He has romantic feelings, but he doesn’t want to become a couple; he wants to remain friends. This is a song that you’ll want to listen to, as it evokes such ambiguous, half-hearted feelings of love. ◆Dr. Shuuta Song Comment I wanted to remain friends, but every time we met in the middle of the night, my heart wavered, and our flirtatious distance made love seem like it was about to blossom. The red light of the traffic light whispered, “Stop,” while the green light urged me to “Go.” The “yellow” that lights up in the gap between these two feelings represents the unresolved feelings that waver between friendship and love. In this song, in addition to the floating guitar sound and vocal and chorus work that are unique to shoegaze, I incorporate drum sounds from the ’80s to create a somewhat nostalgic atmosphere. I personally love dance music, so by combining a four-on-the-floor groove with a reverb-filled, distorted guitar sound, I think I was able to express the worldview of “shoegaze x J-POP” that is characteristic of Clenasm.
