URL: InterContinental Yokohama Grand Press Release: October 31, 2025 Yokohama Grand InterContinental Hotel and Sezon Museum of Modern Art present a hotel experience where you can encounter art: “APORT ENCOUNTER Art x Retreat” ~Installation “Drifting between the Waves” by contemporary artist Chisato Matsumoto~ Since its opening, this hotel has been a venue for encounters with many people and cultures in Yokohama’s Minato Mirai district, an international city where Western and Eastern cultures intersect. Now, it’s collaborating with contemporary art to create a space for even more encounters with new values and the unknown. This project, titled “APORT ENCOUNTER,” is themed around “Art x XX,” and will feature various irregular events where guests can encounter art at the hotel, a crossroads of energy and culture. This time, the atrium lobby that spreads from the main entrance on the first floor of our hotel will be hosting a large-scale installation by contemporary artist Chisato Matsumoto, “Drifting Between the Waves.” Please visit the museum during this autumn art season, along with other art events being held in Yokohama City. Mr. Matsumoto is a spatial artist who transforms fabric into sculptural forms using traditional tie-dyeing techniques. Each of his works is filled with a vibrant vitality, as if they were alive. This time, “Drifting between the Waves” is an installation space that, like the rippling waves of the Yokohama ocean visible from the hotel, releases the tension of everyday life through the drifting sensations evoked by the artwork, gently freeing the viewer’s mind, as if inviting visitors into a relaxing moment at the hotel. In addition, the Saison Art Shop adjacent to the lobby will be a first-time attempt, turning the entire shop into a white space and exhibiting a number of Matsumoto’s intricate, three-dimensional works, created using the same techniques as the lobby. On Thursday, November 13th, there will be an opportunity to speak directly with Matsumoto.
