Transcending time and space, now… Now, on the 40th anniversary of its theatrical release, it’s back on Blu-ray! After two and a half years of silence, Yoshinobu Nishizaki and his production staff, who created the “Space Battleship Yamato” series that created a huge boom in the 1970s and 1980s, have produced a new animated film based on Norse mythology, “Odin: Photon Sailing Ship Starlight.” The music also features contributions from Yasushi Miyagawa and Kentaro Haneda, who also worked on “Space Battleship Yamato,” and the theme music was composed and performed by “LOUDNESS,” a band that was expanding not only in Japan but also overseas at the time. Will you witness the rebirth of this unprecedented super sci-fi odyssey? ■ The theatrical version has been remastered in HD using current technology from the existing video master. In Japan, the film has been out of print for a long time since its DVD release in 2003. However, it has been converted to HD and remastered from the existing video master and is now being released on Blu-ray Disc. ■ The sleeve design is an original illustration by character designer Tomotaka Kogawa. The first production run of the cylindrical sleeve case features an original illustration by character designer Tomotaka Kogawa (whose most notable works include “Space Runaway Ideon: The Movie: Activation Arc” and many others). The DVD also includes a bonus feature, the making-of video “Birth of Starlight…From the Ocean to the Universe…” that was released at the time. A special color booklet is also included as a bonus. The Starlight is heading straight for Jupiter, and the trainees set off to Jupiter to rescue the Jupiter ferry, the Alford. They rescue a girl from a rescue pod, but she has lost her memory.
