Press Release: October 31, 2025 Video production company Sedic International Inc. joins the Culture Entertainment Group Joint release by Culture Entertainment Group and Sedic International Culture Entertainment Group Inc. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Kazuo Nakanishi; hereinafter “CEG”), which handles a wide range of entertainment including movies, music, and publishing, is pleased to announce that on October 31, 2025, it acquired all shares of Sedic International Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Kensuke Zushi; hereinafter “Sedic International”), which has produced numerous film productions including “Departures,” winner of the 81st Academy Award(R) for Best Foreign Language Film. The acquisition has resulted in Sedic International joining the CE Group.
CEG has positioned the video business as one of its core businesses, and is engaged in a wide range of activities, from planning and producing movies and TV dramas to advertising, distribution, and even secondary development. The film “Drive My Car” (2021, directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi), for which CEG served as co-producer, won the Best International Feature Film award at the 94th Academy Awards(R) and the Best Original Screenplay award at the 74th Cannes Film Festival. Furthermore, last year, the film “The Namibian Desert” (2024, directed by Yoko Yamanaka), produced by Bridgehead Inc., won the International Federation of Film Critics Award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. CEG has produced many internationally acclaimed works. Established in 1995 by Toshiaki Nakazawa, a renowned producer in the Japanese film industry, Sedic International is a film production company that has brought numerous classic and popular works to the world. Among these, the film “Departures” (2008/directed by Yojiro Takita), which Nakazawa planned, produced, and produced, was a major hit, winning 103 awards both domestically and internationally, including the Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards(R), sparking a social phenomenon known as the “Departures Craze.” In addition, the company has planned and produced a variety of hit films, including “NANA” (2005, directed by Kentaro Otani), “13 Assassins” (2010, directed by Takashi Miike), and “Space Battleship Yamato” (2010, directed by Takashi Yamazaki). CEG and Sedic International have deepened their relationship through numerous opportunities to collaborate on film productions in recent years. Specific examples include “Desire in the Rain” (directed by Katayama Shinzo), which was released in theaters last year, and “Travels and Days” (directed by Miyake Sho, scheduled for release on November 7, 2025), which became the first Japanese film to win the Golden Leopard Award in 18 years at the 78th Locarno International Film Festival in August this year. These accumulated collaborations have led to the company’s participation in the group. With the addition of Sedic International to C&I Entertainment and Bridgehead, the CE Group has established a “three-company production system.” This allows us to demonstrate even greater production capabilities than ever before and create a system that can continue to maintain the quality of Japanese video content, which is gaining global acclaim. Sedic International has decided to produce and produce 14 films, two series, and four stage productions of its own design between 2026 and 2028. All of these productions are aimed not only at the domestic market, but also at the overseas market, which Sedic International has been focusing on until now. By joining the CE Group, Sedic International will be able to expand its personnel structure and strengthen its ties with CE Group companies and media outlets, and will plan and produce film and stage productions that are rich in originality and ideas that only Sedic International can offer, with even stronger driving force and communication power, both domestically and internationally. The CE Group will continue to strengthen its video business and promote media mix development, including the adaptation of the Group’s original content into films, in an effort to further enhance the value of its IP.
