The reprint project for Saeko Himuro’s “Silver Sea, Golden Earth” (11 volumes), which began in January as a highlight of the magazine’s 10th anniversary, will finally come to an end with the latest volume, released on Wednesday, November 19th.

(c) Saeko Himuro and Haruko Iida / Shueisha Orange Bunko “Silver Sea, Golden Land” is a legendary ancient historical reincarnation fantasy novel by Himuro Saeko (who passed away in 2008), a hugely popular author of Cobalt Bunko, the predecessor of Shueisha Orange Bunko, and a driving force behind the “girls’ novel” boom of the 1980s and 1990s. After being serialized in Shueisha’s bimonthly novel magazine “Cobalt” (which moved to a website in 2016), it was published by Cobalt Bunko from March 1992 to December 1995. It was her final full-length epic novel and a huge hit, but after the publication of 11 volumes, it remained unfinished despite eager anticipation for a sequel. The heroine, Maho, lives a brave life despite being shunned by others due to her complicated upbringing. Her strong and resilient personality never gives in to any adversity, and the unpredictable and turbulent plot and fascinating characters weave together in this story have captivated countless young girls, giving them guidance and courage to live strong lives. Shueisha Orange Bunko has republished all 11 volumes as a highlight of its 10th anniversary, in response to requests from fans for a reprint and with the desire to introduce the greatness of Himuro’s work to a new generation of readers. This series, which had never been reprinted or made into e-books before, will be published one volume per month from January to November of 2025, the anniversary year. The cover illustration and main text illustrations are original works by Haruko Iida, who also illustrated the Cobalt Bunko version.
