At the 38th Tokyo International Film Festival (2025), the two posed with a poster for “San Francisco Beauty Salon” displayed at the venue. “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” an original drama produced by Taiwan’s major broadcaster TVBS, is gaining popularity on the international stage. Following a well-received promotional appearance by lead actors Simon Lien and Nash Chan in Seoul, Yang Johnny and Yang Ching, who play rivals in the film, appeared on stage at the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFFCOM) to interact with Japanese media and international buyers. With support from the Taiwan Ministry of Culture’s “Overseas Star Development Project,” the film interacted with Japanese media and international buyers to showcase the appeal of its unique portrayal of life in modern Taiwan. The meticulous storyline, powerful acting, and realistic portrayal of everyday culture resonated deeply with Japanese audiences, further solidifying TVBS’s original work as one of Asia’s leading creative brands.

He is an ambitious man whose numerous scandals, including inappropriate relationships with the daughter of a TV executive and his own secretary, as well as illegal dealings with unscrupulous chicken suppliers, put his family in crisis. Meanwhile, away from the set, the two deepened their friendship in a relaxed atmosphere. When asked what made the most impression on them during their stay in Tokyo, both answered, “The food.” Yang Qing said with a smile, “Tokyo is such a beautiful city. I went to art museums and even Hakone. The food was amazing!” Yang Johnny added, “The greatest joy of this trip was being able to introduce wonderful Taiwanese dramas to Japan while enjoying delicious food.” The story also features Deng Wei-kang planning to open a Taiwanese-style breakfast restaurant in Japan. In light of this development, when asked, “What Taiwanese breakfast dishes would be popular in Japan?”, Yang Johnny mentioned xiaolongbao, soy milk, and youtiao (fried breadsticks), describing them as “flavors that symbolize Taiwanese breakfast culture.” Yang Ching recommended “salty soy milk,” saying, “I think it has a unique texture for Japanese people.” “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” will begin airing on TVBS Channel 42 and TVBS E! on CHT MOD Channel 311 on October 19th at 8 PM (Taiwan time).
