The 57th Takatsuki City Chrysanthemum Exhibition, featuring beautiful, carefully cultivated chrysanthemums, is being held in front of the east entrance of Takatsuki City Hall’s main building until Wednesday, November 12, 2025. On Friday, October 31st, a judging panel was held to judge the beauty of the chrysanthemums based on their overall balance and the size of the flowers and leaves, and the winners of the Mayor’s Award and other awards were decided. The exhibition was started by the City Chrysanthemum Association in 1968 to allow many citizens to appreciate the chrysanthemum, Japan’s most representative flower. Now in its 57th year, the exhibition has become a beloved autumn tradition for over half a century. This year’s exhibit features approximately 60 pieces lovingly cultivated by members of the association. A diverse range of works were on display across six categories, including “Sanbutate” (three-stalk arrangement), in which one sapling is trained to grow into three saplings; “Dome
Chrysanthemums,” in which small chrysanthemums are trained into a round, dome-shaped arrangement; and “Fukusuke-zukuri” (one large chrysanthemum arrangement). Although the heatwaves delayed flowering, the colorful chrysanthemums finally reached full bloom, splendidly blooming on the four roofed buildings in front of the east entrance of the City Hall main building. Passersby stopped to admire the arrangements and take photos. On Friday, October 31st, the judging panel will be held, where participants will compete for beauty based on the overall balance of the chrysanthemums, the size of the flowers and leaves, and the thickness of the stems. This year’s theme variety, “Kokuka Kouga,” was judged, and the Mayor’s Award went to Mori Atsuzo (Furusube-cho, Takatsuki City), the Chairman’s Award to Shimomura Kazuko (Uradō Honmachi, Takatsuki City), and the Board of Education Award to Hirose Katsuyoshi (Hiyoshidai Yonban-cho, Takatsuki City).
