long-awaited, historic collaboration with Nas, “U Aint Gotta The album features guest rappers and producers including Jay-Z, Mac Miller, Joe Budden, Method Man, Joey Bada$$, Conductor Williams, Lord Finesse, Showbiz, Novel, Errol Holden, Stretch & Bobbito, Ron Browse, Beat Butcha, McGruff, and Party Artie. Big L was shot and killed at the age of 24 in 1999, just before the announcement of his signing with Roc-A-Fella Records. At the time, he was one of hip-hop’s
fastest-rising stars, acclaimed for his intricate wordplay, humor, and masterful lyricism that spoke to street life. His outstanding debut album, Lifestyles of da Poor & Dangerous (1995), featured production credits from renowned producers Lord Finesse, Showbiz, and Buckwild, and featured collaborations with Kid Capri, Cam’ron, and a
then-unknown Jay-Z. The album spawned classics like “M.V.P.” (later sampled by The Notorious B.I.G. on his remix of “One More Chance”), “Put It On,” and “Da Graveyard.”

(Digging In The Crates Crew), which also included Lord Finesse, Showbiz & A.G., Fat Joe, O.C., and Diamond D. After a lucrative deal with Roc-A-Fella Records fell through, much of the material from that time was used for his posthumous second album, “The Big Picture,” released by Rawkus Records in 2000. Executive produced by DJ Premier, the album featured a stellar lineup of artists including DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Lord Finesse, Showbiz, Ron Browse, Mike Herron, 2Pac, Fat Joe, Kool G Rap, Guru, Big Daddy Kane, Sadat X, Remy Ma, O.C., and his Flamboyant crew. It has been hailed as one of the greatest tribute albums of all time and was later certified gold. Nearly 25 years later, Mass Appeal’s new tribute album, “Harlem’s Finest: Return Of The King,” will be Big L’s definitive and final album. His family served as executive producers, with Mike “Heron” Herard and Royce 5’9″ serving as associate producers. His
collaboration with the late Mac Miller on “Forever” was made possible with the cooperation of both Big L and Mac Miller’s estates. One of Mac’s dreams has finally come true. Harlem’s Finest: Return Of The King proves once again that Big L’s name remains synonymous with lyrical excellence. It’s a timeless work, a final, respectful tribute to one of Harlem’s greatest street terrors. Long Live the King!!
