Wako Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kiyoko Niwasaki) will be holding the “Stone Scapes: Precious Stone Sculptor Koji Takuma Exhibition” in the Arts and Culture section of the main store’s basement floor from Thursday, November 27th to Wednesday, December 10th. The basement floor of our flagship store was reborn as “Arts and Culture” in July 2024, based on the concept of “a stage for time.” Based on Japanese hospitality, we have been showcasing products that embody Japanese aesthetics, craftsmanship, and sustainability. It is a space where you can experience encounters woven by time, such as Japanese customs and aesthetics born from the changing seasons and our relationship with nature, the time and thought that went into each item, and the connected technologies and time that connects us to the future. At this event, we will introduce the works of Koji Takuma, who creates his works from precious stones, the mysterious fragments that the Earth has nurtured over the ages. Koji Takuma is a precious stone sculptor based in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, who creates crafts using crystal, lapis lazuli, jade, and other materials. Crystals were discovered in Yamanashi Prefecture about 5,000 years ago, and during the Edo period, bead craftsmen were invited from Kyoto to develop unique polishing techniques. These techniques have been passed down and their application to various gemstones has been promoted, and the prefecture has now developed into a major producer of rare jewelry worldwide. Koji Takuma is a precious stone sculptor who pursues unique craftsmanship that combines tradition and innovation. His creations begin with purchasing raw stones. Through repeated dialogue with the stones, he uses advanced polishing techniques to create pieces that maximize the unique patterns and crystallization of each stone. The exhibition features works that allow you to experience the “time” that the Earth has stored within it. At this event, we will exhibit and sell shot glasses and paperweights created in collaboration with product designer Fumie Shibata, as well as specially offer works exhibited at the
Osaka-Kansai Expo. Pair glasses will also be available for pre-sale.

The “stone cutting” technique, which determines how to use the rough stone, is also an important element. (Shot glass ¥330,000~ including tax)
