To celebrate the nationwide release of the film “Toritsukare Otoko” on Friday, November 7th, on Thursday, October 30th, A public recording of FM Osaka was held at the Sky Court on the 3rd floor of Abeno Q’s Mall (Osaka City). Shoya Sano (Ae! group), the voice actor for the main character Giuseppe, appeared on stage. This is a musical animated love story based on the original novel by Shinji Ishii. It depicts Giuseppe, a “sad boy” who becomes completely obsessed with something when he falls in love with it, as he falls in love with Petchka, a girl selling balloons. When Sano, a native of Hyogo Prefecture, appeared on stage, the 800 people gathered at the venue erupted in cheers of “Welcome back!”, to which Sano responded with delight, “I’m back! It feels like I’m back in Kansai.”

When asked about Giuseppe’s character by MC Shota Shimono, Sano commented, “At first, I thought he was a very mysterious character, but before I knew it, I was captivated by Giuseppe’s charm. The more I get to know him, the more fascinating he becomes. This is the first time I’ve ever loved a character so much while playing a role.” He commented on how he played Giuseppe with great affection.
Incidentally, this is Sano’s second time voicing an animated film. His first attempt was in the 2025 film “Yozen.” When interviewed about the film, he said, “If possible, I’d love for my next film to have songs and even a musical. I hope that happens someday.” When offered the role in “Toritsukare Otoko,” which is filled with singing scenes, he couldn’t hide his surprise, saying, “I couldn’t believe it was decided, and I was so happy.” As for the voice acting, the songs were recorded before the dialogue. However, the illustrations were still incomplete at that stage. Sano said, “The director told me, ‘I want you to sing this part as if you’re flying through the sky,’ and ‘I want you to sing while feeling the sparkle in Giuseppe’s eyes more.’ I was recording thinking, ‘It’ll be difficult because the images aren’t finished.’ But when it was finished, it was a really captivating image, and it’s rare in this day and age to use almost no CG. Each frame was drawn by hand, so you can really feel the handmade feel and warmth.” He added that he was fascinated by the finished work. The voice of the heroine, Pechka, in “Toritsukare Otoko” is provided by Moka Kamishiraishi. There’s also a duet song with Kamishiraishi in the film, but it was apparently recorded separately. Sano revealed that the duet scene was highly polished, saying, “I thought Kamishiraishi and I would be able to record it together, but it was just me. Since it’s a duet and there are harmonies and exchanges, I wondered if it would be okay to record it separately, but it was a perfect match. It seems like we recorded everything together, from the length of the notes, to the way we pronounce the consonants, to the nuances of our voices.”

Not just today, but he was also the MC on March 16th of last year, when we announced our debut (of Aぇ! group). He also ran the press conference and read a letter from (SUPER EIGHT’s) Yokoyama-kun. When we appeared on the radio, he was such a loving MC that I thought, ‘Why are you including so much information about us?'” He also gave honest, intuitive answers to five questions, including, “Do you have high ideals?” and “What has moved you?” Finally, Sano once again promoted the film, saying, “This is a work that will remind you of the wonderfulness of being passionate about something, of falling in love with someone, and of being engrossed in something. It’s a wonderful work that will make the scenery you’ve seen before look completely different when you leave the theater.”
