The Act on Assistance Dogs for Physically Disabled Persons was enacted in 2002, and this year marks the 20th anniversary of the law. This law stipulates that assistance dogs, including service dogs, can be accompanied in public facilities, public transportation, restaurants, and lodging facilities used by an unspecified number of people. However, even after 20 years, recognition is still low, and there is a reality that refusal to accompany people does not disappear. (Shafuku) Japan Service Dog Association (hereinafter referred to as the Association) cooperates with Tully’s Coffee Japan Co., Ltd., which has been supporting the association on a daily basis, with the aim of improving recognition at restaurants where service dogs are often refused to accompany. I looked up and made a video of accepting a service dog in the store.
This video was filmed at the Tully’s Shin-Yokohama store near the association headquarters office in Shin-Yokohama. It is a video that summarizes what the Act on Assistance Dogs for Physically Disabled Persons is and how to respond when a service dog user comes to the store. Tully’s Coffee Japan Co., Ltd. plans to use this video as an educational program for employees to accept service dogs.

Tully’s Coffee Japan Co., Ltd.’s Support for Assistance Dogs Since February 2020, we have been supporting service dogs by donating part of the sales of animal character products such as Bearful (R) to the association as support for service dogs. Mr. Sekiguchi of Tully’s Coffee Japan Co., Ltd. said, “Ever since we started supporting fellows (*employees) working at our stores, we have been able to gain more interest and knowledge about service dogs. However, I would appreciate it if it leads to an opportunity to support service dogs and to learn about service dogs.”
