The “BP” series uses lighthouses throughout Japan as base points. Photographer Mitsuru Sakurai, who has won a global award, will present his works for the first time in this exhibition.
This exhibition “BP” will be the first exhibition of the new “BP” series by photographer Mitsuru Sakurai. The previous series “Fe” was awarded the IPA (International Photography Award) 2019 with the Tokyo Tower and the steel towers of the Kawasaki industrial area as subjects. It was exhibited in New York and other countries around the world. In 2020 and 2021, he held a solo exhibition at 3331 Arts Chiyoda and participated in Art Fair Tokyo 2022 as an exhibitor at the Sho+1 booth.
“BP” means Base Point. In the midst of the corona crisis, Sakurai started working by projecting the place (reference point) that he should return to, which he saw through dialogue with himself, onto a lighthouse.
Lighthouses in various parts of Japan, such as Inubosaki Lighthouse, Hitachi Lighthouse, and Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse, are used as subjects. There are 5 days left in the session. We look forward to seeing you there.
