According to the 2016 Social Life Basic Survey*1 by the Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the average amount of time spent on “learning, self-enlightenment, and training” by employed persons was only 6 minutes a day. On the other hand, this time we asked about the frequency of learning among professionals, and the higher the annual income, the higher the learning frequency. It can be said that the higher the market value of human resources, the more habitual input habits they have acquired on a daily basis.
Reading is overwhelmingly the number one learning method chosen by professionals. Online learning also ranked high

Regarding the learning method of professional human resources, the most common was reading “specialized books” and “business books”. Next, about 30% answered that they are using online content. 61.9% of professionals have started learning a new field within the last year [Image 5

Also, when asked about how long they have been working on the field they are currently learning, it was found that 61.9% had learned a new field within the last year. In order to continue to play an active role as a professional, you can see that he is practicing “continuous learning” that constantly receives a wide range of inputs.
On the other hand, 28.9% have continued to study the same field for a long period of 3 years or more, and it is assumed that there are professionals who adopt a “continuous learning” strategy that continues to improve their expertise in a specific field.
Two types of learning that differ depending on the type of job: “Short-term cycle type” and “Continuous learning type”

Looking at each specialized field, it seems that it can be roughly divided into two learning types. People who responded that they started studying the field they are currently studying within the past year are often used in their work. Those who answered that they started learning more than 3 years ago were regarded as “continuous learning type” who continue to input mainly in one field that is the basis of their work, and “balanced type” for others By the way, there were fields (occupations) that were biased toward either the short-term cycle type or the continuous learning type. It is conceivable that the knowledge to be used in business may change one after another in each specialized field, and conversely, there may be differences such as the ease with which a common framework can be utilized in multiple fields.
On the other hand, there was almost no difference in the distribution of learning types by annual income.
