The world is moving towards circular packaging. In particular, plastic packaging has many problems, but efforts are being made to recycle and reuse it through chemical recycling. Reuse of mechanical recycling is also possible, but with the exception of PET bottles, this is a demonstration experiment with items collected at stores, and regular collection is still to be verified and there are many issues. Recyclability is an essential issue to consider at the packaging design stage, but the recycling and reuse of collected packaging materials is not yet in place. In Japan, it is collected by the Container Recycling Law and the Plastic Resource Recycling Law, but there are many problems. There are several types of chemical recycling, and it is difficult to decide which one is the favorite. We will explain what direction the world and Japan are headed, citing specific examples of responses, and predict the current issues and how we should proceed in the future.
