Three products from Daiso Sangyo win the 2022 Good Design Award Three products that emphasized environmental friendliness in addition to design and functionality received awards

“Daiso” operated by Daiso Sangyo Co., Ltd. (Higashi Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, President: Seiji Yano, hereinafter “Daiso Sangyo”) “Corrugated cardboard size adjustment cutter” and “Standard Products by DAISO” , “Standard Products”), “Hinoki Pure Essential Oil” and “craftsman pencil” received the “2022 Good Design Award” (sponsored by Japan Institute of Design Promotion).
The corrugated cardboard size adjustment cutter has been highly evaluated for its ability to respond to the changing times, where the use of flea market apps has increased and the opportunities for individuals to pack and ship parcels in corrugated cardboard have increased, as well as the viewpoint of consideration for the economy and the environment. Thank you. This is the fourth award for a DAISO product, following the 2019 “Compressed Towel”, the 2020 “Small Cutting Board”, and the 2021 “Clip Mirror”.
In addition, Standard Products’ cypress pure essential oil and craftsman pencil were evaluated not only for their design, but also for their efforts to collaborate with sustainability-conscious manufacturers. This is the second award for Standard Products, following last year’s award in the Branding/CI/VI category, and the first award for a product.
Daiso Sangyo will continue to work on product development that emphasizes environmental considerations in addition to design and functionality, and will contribute to the realization of a rich life for our customers.

transportation, has a guide function that allows you to make straight creases at a certain height, and is highly rated for being offered at a reasonable price. Overview: A 100% pure cypress essential oil made from domestic thinnings. It was created not only for the purpose of developing environmentally friendly products, but also as part of a project to support the domestic forestry industry. In addition to in-store advertisements, we also produce special websites and original movies to create products with the aim of disseminating the current state of the domestic forestry industry.
Judge’s evaluation: Using thinnings of domestic cypress as raw materials for essential oils, considering the wages of stakeholders involved in manufacturing, package design is well organized, and low price range that is easy for people to pick up. It is worthy of praise that the product was commercialized. I strongly hope that they will continue to consistently manufacture and sell further products in addition to this essential oil and related products, rather than staying at a temporary activity. We hope that this will serve as an opportunity to inform a broader range of people of the issues and current state of the domestic forestry industry.

Standard Products “craftsman pencil”
Stationery and Office Supplies Division
Overview: A pencil made by a craftsman at a long-established stationery maker. In recent years, due to a decrease in the number of users, the production volume of pencils is about 20% of the peak. Pushed by low-priced overseas products, carefully made domestic pencils are forced into a price competition of about 20 to 30 yen each. Therefore, in collaboration with Standard Products, we created a “high-priced, high-quality” pencil for creators.
Judge’s evaluation: The package and material selection are excellent, and it has a sophisticated design with a sense of luxury. The gradation paint allows you to recognize the darkness of the pencil lead, which is a new expression that has never been seen before. You can intuitively choose the pencil of your favorite thickness, and it will be preferred not only by creators but also by many users. The design attitude of the “craftsman pencil”, which is supported by a wide range of people even though it has a target, is expected to become a standard in the future.
