We are considering making Meikei-dori a permanent pedestrian zone, which is expected to improve the safety and staying comfort of the street. Currently, Meikei-dori Street, which has a lot of pedestrian traffic, is a pedestrian zone (regular vehicle restrictions during certain hours) from 8:00 to 9:00 (weekdays only), 12:00 to 13:00, and 22:00 at 5:00. In addition, on Meikei-dori Street, there have been 18 outdoor art events called “Ochanomizu Art Picnic” every autumn and for two days on holidays, in collaboration with the store association and students.
On the other hand, in Chiyoda Ward, in order to promote the creation of a walkable town in 2022, we have formulated a “Walkable Town Development Design”. Then, we solicited “community-led walkable activities (demonstration experiments such as placemaking)”. This demonstration experiment is positioned as one of the three activities adopted for this public offering.
The Ochanomizu Meikeidori Association, Nihon University College of Science and Engineering Department of Architecture Urban Planning Laboratory (Izumiyama Seminar), and Sotonova, a general incorporated association, will conduct a demonstration experiment titled “Street Life Ochanomizu -Street Life Ochanomizu-“.
Purpose of the demonstration experiment
The purpose of this demonstration experiment is to:
A. Verification of the impact on cargo handling vehicles and pedestrians due to restrictions on general vehicles on holidays (extension of restrictions) on Meikei Dori.
B. Creating spaces for people to stay by making pedestrian roads Through the above two points, we will solve the problems of
Meikei-dori Street, improve QOSL (Quality Of Street Life), strengthen the attachment and connection with the community, and realize the future image “connected city center” stipulated in the Chiyoda Ward urban planning master plan. We aim to realize

Point 1. Relaxing stay space
Point 2. Concept: Take a break
It will be a space where you can experience art while making it a place where you can take a temporary break. The accordion bench to be installed can change the space depending on how it is placed, and unlike ordinary benches, it can incorporate art elements. In addition, an easel exhibition will be held to promote the culture of Ochanomizu. [Image 3d24612-43-5652f73505ebde2be1a1-1.png&s3=24612-43-4a70928700b0bc431b7dd8786f2e3f69-3508x2481.png
Point 2. Staying space for a break
Point 3. Concept: A change of pace
Since there are restaurants such as cafes in the surrounding area, the place where the chairs and desks will be installed should be a space where you can take a break after eating or drinking and refresh your mind.
