The newly developed “Kenkou Sleep Exercise (R)” (*2) is a
collaboration between Lion and University of Tokyo Hospital 22nd Century Medical Center Musculoskeletal Pain Medical Research & Management Department Specially Appointed Professor Hiroshi Matsudaira (Trunk It was jointly developed by Solution Co., Ltd. (technical adviser), and it is possible to train three functions (oral cavity, sleep, locomotor) at the same time.
HITOWA Care Service has collaborated with TANOTECH Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as TANOTECH) to develop a game called “Kenko Sleeping Exercises (R)” to enable elderly people to enjoy and continuously exercise at nursing homes. TANO-LT, a game machine for nursing care facilities, was introduced in advance.
1. background
Currently, about 16 million elderly people nationwide are estimated to have various problems in their daily lives, such as declining locomotory and cognitive functions, and dysphagia due to declining oral function (*3). To address this issue, Lion, University of Tokyo Hospital 22nd Century Medical Center Specially Appointed Professor Hiroshi Matsudaira, and Trunk Solution Co., Ltd. (President and CEO Tsutomu Murao) will develop “Kenko Sleep Exercise” in January 2022. (*4). This exercise allows you to perform 21 types of exercise in 5 minutes while sitting, and you can train the three functions of the oral cavity, sleep, and locomotor system “simultaneously”.
Lion incorporates the idea of gamification (*5) in order to make it easy and enjoyable to continue this gymnastics. We have developed a virtual game program that combines sleep exercises (*6). The game machine “TANO-LT” for nursing homes, which is equipped with the “TANO” virtual game program of “Kenko Sleep Exercise”, will be on sale on September 27, 2022.
HITOWA Care Service provides residents of the facilities we operate with “care prevention and frailty prevention for independence support”, “creation of exercise habits in elderly facilities”, and “contribution to highly stable operation through health promotion”. For this purpose, we have decided to conduct this demonstration experiment jointly with Lion.

In this demonstration experiment, 14 people were selected and their physical functions were measured in advance. After that, about three days a week, participants participated in exercises and recreation using “Kenko Sleep Exercise (R)” and “TANO-LT”, and after one week, the effect on the two functions of “motor function” and “oral function” was observed. verified. As a result, improvement was seen in “motor function” in the flexibility of the legs and joints, and in “oral function”, effects were seen in the strength and movement of the lips and cheeks, and the strength and movement of the tongue. We plan to continue to measure the effects on “sleep efficiency” and “QOL evaluation” in addition to “motor function” and “oral function” while verifying the effects after 2 weeks and 1 month.

Four. Overview of TANO-LT
“TANO” is a game machine for welfare, nursing care, and educational sites that uses motion sensors. Simply by standing in front of the sensor, you can perform more than 180 types of exercise, vocalization, and brain activation programs. “TANO-LT” can use the “Kenko Sleep Exercise (R)” program in addition to the programs normally installed in “TANO”.
When you imitate the movement of “Kenko Sleep Exercise (R)” displayed on the screen, the sensor reads the skeleton, compares it with the correct movement, scores the skeleton matching rate, and displays it in real time. This makes it possible to perform gymnastics as if it were a game, creating opportunities for efforts to improve one’s score, competing with others, and so on. By continuing to enjoy training, we can expect to prevent “frailty,” which is the aging of the mind and body due to aging.
HITOWA Care Service plans to verify this experiment in the future and consider introducing it to other facilities. Going forward, we will continue to provide quality of life services that lead to the improvement of residents’ ADL and plus one care beyond that through a system that demonstrates scientifically effective results.
