At the Biwako Hotel (located in Hamacho, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture; general manager: Yoshikazu Maeda), from 2021, with the guidance and cooperation of photographer Mitsuhiko Imamori and local farmers, the “Aurelian Hill” (Otsu City I am working on farm work in Ogi). Following the vegetables, we will challenge the cultivation of “Kinuhikari” from the spring of 2022. I sympathized with Mr. Imamori’s philosophy of “regenerating satoyama through agriculture and passing it on to the future,” and worked repeatedly with the idea of ​​bringing blessings to living things without relying on pesticides. As a result, we were able to harvest 600 kg (brown rice equivalent) in the first rice harvest in September.
From October 7th, the harvested rice will be served for breakfast to guests staying on the club lounge floor. Please take this opportunity to try the new rice that has been brought up along with the bustle of life in Satoyama.

What is Aurelian Hill
Aurelians are people who love butterflies. Mitsuhiko Imamori, in cooperation with local residents, revived the farmland on a small hill overlooking Mt. Hiei and Mt. Hira. Mr. Imamori not only produces crops through agriculture, but also works on “environmental agriculture” that coexists with nature, in order to regenerate living creatures and even the fragrant smell of soil. Biwako Hotel sympathized with Mr. Imamori’s idea that “people are part of the ecosystem,” and worked with Mr. Imamori to “regenerate the rich natural environment” in addition to “cultivating rice and vegetables” on Aurélien Hill. Comments from the staff in charge
For more than 20 years, Biwako Hotel has been promoting initiatives to protect Satoyama through its relationships with customers, such as the “Satoyama no Shokusai Project.”
After Mr. Imamori started growing vegetables last fall (2021), he asked me, “Would you like to grow rice in the terraced rice fields?” Working in terraced rice fields that have not been modernized. I was surprised that there are many processes before rice planting, such as setting up fences to protect the rice from damage by animals and cleaning the irrigation canals. I was confused because I was experiencing things for the first time, such as the difficulty of pulling weeds in the heat and the difficulty of water management, but I managed to harvest safely.

Opened in July 2021 as a lounge exclusively for guests staying on the club floors (suites, premier luxury floor “Vista” and premier luxury floor “Aqua”). Based on the concept of “Lake Time, Lake Place, Lake Memory (Konotoki Konobashishokonokioku),” we have prepared special menus for breakfast, tea time, and cocktail time.
