The 2023 edition of the Kesennuma Fisherman’s Calendar will be produced by Kentaro Kumon, who has taken various photographs on the theme of “landscapes created by human activities”, including the photo book “Plower”, which captures agricultural landscapes all over Japan. Thank you.
It is not the first time for him to photograph fishermen, as he has a connection with the primary industry on a regular basis. We asked Kentaro Kumon to cut out the “Fisherman of Kesennuma” that can only be seen.
The shooting begins with one of Kesennuma’s specialties, the saury ship’s departure from the boat. Accompanying rough fishing. A fisherman relaxing in a public bath. How they live like us. You can feel the food, clothing and shelter of a “fisherman” from the monthly photographs.
The design is bold, with one large vertical photo on the double-page spread, creating a powerful, poster-like calendar.
At the end of the book, a special interview with Naoko Adachi, the screenwriter of the NHK serial drama novel “Welcome back Monet” set in Kesennuma, and Kenta Senda, an Olympic medalist from Kesennuma, is recorded, which is a bit different from the past. Please enjoy the spectacular calendar.
