The Kyoto Hyogu Cooperative (located in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, Chairman Yoshishige Tanaka), to which 61 Hyogu craftsmen, ranging from veteran to young, belong, held the “67th Hyobi Exhibition” (mounting art exhibition) sponsored by the Kyoto Hyogu Cooperative. It will be held for the first time in a year.
“Omotebiten” has a history of more than 60 years, and you can see the culmination of the genuine beauty and craftsmanship of Kyoto mountings (hanging scrolls, frames, folding screens, fusuma, etc.) nurtured in Kyoto. This year’s event is full of highlights, such as a real display of products from the online shop “SENSE of Kyoto” operated by our association. In addition, a “Customer Consultation Desk” will be set up in the venue to provide free consultation on new Kyoto mounting fixtures and repairs.

At the “Omotebi Exhibition”, works that bring together the techniques and sensibilities of Kyoto Hyogu will be exhibited, and visitors will be able to appreciate them widely. We hope that by touching real Kyoto mountings (hanging scrolls, frames, folding screens, fusuma, etc.), you will rediscover the charm of Kyoto mountings, and at the same time, it will be an opportunity to reconsider the Japanese way of life.

■Establishment of a “Customer Consultation Desk” (we accept requests for new mountings and repairs and restorations for old mountings) Professional knowledge and skills are required to repair and restore hanging scrolls, folding screens, frames, and fusuma. At Kyoto Hyogu Cooperative Association, there are many “Hyogu craftsmen” who have excellent skills and knowledge in various specialized fields. We will accurately diagnose the symptoms (damage, dirt, deterioration) of each work, and select the appropriate person who has specialized knowledge and skills according to the case. The parties to the contract will be the customer and our union, and our union will be responsible for everything from consultations and requests to delivery, so please feel free to contact us. We also have a track record of dealing with distant customers. Consultation and quotation are free.
■ Real exhibition of works from the online shop “SENSE of Kyoto” The works sold at the online shop “SENSE of Kyoto Hyogu” operated by our association will also be exhibited at a booth in the venue. You can see ambitious new works realistically.

■ About us, Kyoto Hyogu Cooperative
We, the Kyoto Hyogu Cooperative Association, use the traditions and techniques of “Kyoto Hyogu”, which has a thousand years of history, such as new and restored hanging scrolls, folding screens, frames, and fusuma, and Japanese and Western room interiors, as well as new techniques that we have acquired through tireless study. We are a group of traditional craftsmen “mounting craftsmen” who respond to orders.
The Kyoto Hyogu Cooperative was established in 1955, when the economy was finally recovering after the turmoil after World War II. Based on the spirit of mutual aid, the aim is for the industry and members to prosper together. Incorporated in February 1959, it is active as an organization authorized by the governor of Kyoto Prefecture. In 1997, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry designated “Kyoto Hyogu” as a “traditional craft” based on the Act on Traditional Crafts. received.
