The Oirase Gorge, which runs for about 14km from Lake Towada to Mt. Yakeyama, is located in Towada-Hachimantai National Park and is designated as a special protection area. In winter, snow piles up, icicles grow all over the rocky cliffs, and the waterfall freezes in the extreme cold, creating a world that looks like an ink painting. The “Oirase Gorge Icefall Tour”, where you can enjoy the breathtaking winter scenery of the Oirase Gorge, was entrusted by Towada City, Aomori Prefecture, and operated by Towada Oirase Tourism Organization (Chairman: Onoda). In the daytime course, you can visit the beautiful bluish icicles and icefalls while listening to the formation and nature of the valley with a nature guide. In the night tour, a special light car will operate together with the tour bus, and will light up five spots in the Oirase stream. The mysteries of the icicles and icefalls floating in the darkness of the night create the illusion that time has stopped. Each viewing spot has its own lighting concept, and you can enjoy the colors and changes of the light.
