Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd.
Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd., Saitama Prefecture, and 6 companies jointly conduct a public-private partnership to demonstrate the “visualization of plastic resource recycling”
From in-store collection of used plastics to recycling, ascertain CO2 emissions in each process, and communicate the environmental contribution of recycled products to consumers ―
Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, President: Yoshinari Kitajima, hereinafter referred to as DNP) is collaborating with six companies, including Saitama Prefecture and Kayo Co., Ltd., to collect used plastics at home, and In November 2022, we will start a demonstration experiment to ensure traceability (management and tracking of information) until it is recycled as a product, and to effectively transmit it.
Using a traceability system, we will manage information such as the resource circulation flow and CO2 emissions in each process, and disseminate it to consumers in an easy-to-understand manner to foster awareness of recycling.
[Background and aim of the start of the demonstration experiment] In recent years, as the need for the realization of a
recycling-oriented society has increased both in Japan and overseas, efforts to recycle used plastics, etc., and the visualization of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions such as CO2 and environmental friendliness of products by each supplier company. is required. Until now, information such as how resources collected for recycling are circulated in the community, how much recycled products contribute to reducing environmental impact, etc., has often not been sufficiently disclosed to consumers. , it was difficult to obtain the cooperation of consumers for recycling.
To resolve these issues, DNP is collaborating with Saitama Prefecture and six companies to ensure traceability in the recycling of used plastics and provide this information to consumers in order to promote consumer recycling activities. We will conduct a demonstration experiment to effectively transmit information.
[Features of initiatives by DNP, Saitama Prefecture, and six companies] 〇 Targeting used plastics from households, among the entire recycling process involving multiple companies and local governments, there is a process called “venous industry” from store collection to recycling, and a process called “arterial industry” for regeneration. We collect and quantify various information in the process of utilizing the resources we have acquired and commercializing them.

〇In addition to analyzing the collected information and disseminating it to consumers in an easy-to-understand manner, we will verify communication measures that lead to motivation for recycling, such as conducting questionnaires on changes in awareness. We plan to set up a dedicated site for disseminating information, and make it accessible from recycled products and QR codes posted at stores, and disclose information such as the amount of plastic collected, the amount of CO2 reduction in recycled products, and the flow of product recycling. 〇As part of the “Saitama Prefecture Platform for Promoting Sustainable Use of Plastic Resources”*, DNP and Saitama Prefecture, Kayo Co., Ltd. (store reception), Kinoshita Friend Co., Ltd., JF Materials Co., Ltd. (resource recovery, recycling (crushing) )), Ecomax Co., Ltd. (recycling (pelletization)), Rotary Co., Ltd. (manufacturing recycled products), and JEMS Co., Ltd. (development of “visualization” system) will collaborate to promote this initiative. DNP utilizes various communication measures between consumers and companies, as well as know-how related to environmental load calculations, to build and operate a communication model.
〇 Through this initiative, we will consider effective methods of disclosing recycling information to consumers and establish it as added value when developing recycled products, thereby revitalizing efforts by companies and local governments related to recycling. I will connect.
* Saitama Prefecture Platform for Promoting Sustainable Use of Plastic Resources: To ensure sustainable production and consumption patterns, it aims to curb the discharge of plastic waste and promote the cyclical use of plastic resources through industry-government-private partnerships. set up for the purpose of
■ Collection of used plastics
○ Collection period: November 18th (Friday) to 20th (Sunday), 2022 ○ Collection location: Keio Day Two Tokorozawa Nakatomi store (1-1 Nakatomi Minami, Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture)
We look forward to the cooperation of users of this store and residents of Tokorozawa City.
○ Objects to be collected: Plastic clothing cases, harvesting containers, planters, wash basins, buckets, etc.
Since it is recycled after collection, there is no foreign matter, and dirt such as tapes, labels, metals, soil, etc.
Limited collection of dropped items.

[DNP’s efforts for environmental consideration]
DNP has always taken the initiative in solving environmental issues, aiming to realize a sustainable environment, society, and economy, while constantly thinking about coexistence between business activities and the global environment. In 2020, we formulated the “DNP Group Environmental Vision 2050” and are accelerating our efforts to realize a “decarbonized society,” “recycling society,” and “a society in harmony with nature.”
In October 2022, we established DNP GREEN PARTNER* as an in-house system to promote environmental businesses across divisions, amid growing expectations and demands for environmental considerations and improved sustainability in corporate activities. . We will accompany companies that are working to solve environmental issues and comprehensively support various activities, from environment-related decision-making to the implementation of specific measures.
Going forward, DNP will continue to support the activities of environmentally conscious companies and others through the selection of product materials, manufacturing processes, and communication measures with consumers, and develop services that quantify and visualize these activities.
