Omoriya Satoyama Conservation Corps Rijin (Sumoto City, Hyogo Prefecture) Activity name: “Takehara shiitake” sales promotion project to make local weapons The “Omoriya Satoyama Conservation Team” in Sumoto City, Hyogo Prefecture, received a subsidy to start a log shiitake mushroom business in an area (Takehara Village) that used to be full of tourist farms but has declined. It was decided to rebuild and reopen the tourist farm of log shiitake mushrooms. We are making a contribution to solving the problem of regional decline due to the lack of successors to agriculture, which is a major social issue in Japanese society.
I visited the “Takebaraki Shiitake Mushroom Tourist Farm” which was reopened on October 8th this year.
The subsidy has three major goals. (1) Establishment of a facility for laying the logs of raw shiitake mushrooms, (2) introduction of machinery that will be useful for commercialization, and (3) commercialization.
Log cultivation is a method of cultivating mushrooms by using natural trees, felling trees, and inoculating inoculum directly on dead logs. This log is called “hodagi”. It takes two years from inoculating the fungus to harvesting it. The current facility can hold 2,500 hodaki trees, but this is not enough to run a tourist farm. By making a new one, you can add 3000 bottles. In the process of growing shiitake mushrooms in good shape, they are thinned out, but I would like to introduce a machine that will dry them deliciously or vacuum pack them for commercialization. And we are proceeding with product development and package design to sell the product.
Mr. Shiro Taniguchi of the Omoriya Satoyama Conservation Team Rijin Secretariat said, “The Sanchoku Domino Fund has few restrictions on its use and is a subsidy that allows us to take on challenges, so it is very supportive.”
Since the “Takebaraki Shiitake Mushroom Tourist Farm” reopened in October, it seems that 60 to 70 customers have come to pick shiitake mushrooms.
