Providing “Digital Annealer” to “Digital Annealer Quantum Information Center” in Taiwan with the aim of further development of quantum science and technology through industry-government-academia
Fujitsu Taiwan Ltd. (Note 1, Fujitsu Taiwan) participated in the “Quantum National Team” launched by the Taiwanese government to accelerate research and development on next-generation quantum computing technology, and established Chungwon University (Note 2). In November 2022, the Fujitsu Quantum-inspired Computing Digital Annealer (“Digital Annealer”), a quantum-inspired technology from Fujitsu Limited (Note 3, hereinafter referred to as “Fujitsu”), will be installed in the Digital Annealer Quantum Information Center. Offered from day 1.
The “Quantum National Team” will be established by the Taiwanese government investing 8 billion Taiwan yuan (approximately 36.7 billion yen in Japanese yen) over the five years from 2022 to 2026. This program promotes research and development in quantum science and technology. At the “Digital Annealer Quantum Information Center,” which was established with the support of this program, Chuo University has advanced quantum computing technology and application research and development under the theme of “optimization of quantum computing and its application to finance.” We will make efforts. In this initiative, Fujitsu Taiwan Ltd. will cooperate with Fujitsu’s Digital Annealer, one of the services that make up the Fujitsu Computing as a Service (CaaS) service group that makes it easy to use advanced computing and software technologies. ” on the cloud to support research and development, and contribute to the development of professional human resources who will lead the next generation of quantum technology, which is the goal of Chuohara University. [ About Digital Annealer Quantum Information Center ]
・ Location: Taoyuan City, Taiwan (on the campus of Chungwon University) ・Date of establishment: April 21, 2022
・Outline: Advanced research and development of quantum computing technology and applications under the following three themes 1. Research on solving combinatorial optimization problems
2. Utilization in the financial field
3. Application to material development in the field of chemistry “Digital Annealer” is a technology inspired by quantum computing, and can solve complex combinatorial optimization problems that are difficult to solve with current general-purpose computers at extremely high speed. The hardware of “Digital Annealer” is based on
semiconductor technology and can be operated at room temperature, which reduces maintenance costs and enables easy integration with other systems. In addition, through the provision of cloud services and specialized consulting services, Digital Annealer is being used by customers in various fields, demonstrating its usefulness.
“CaaS” was launched in Japan on October 25 as a group of services that make it easy for anyone to use Fujitsu’s advanced computing and software technologies, including “Digital Annealer.” From 2023, we will gradually expand globally.
Going forward, Fujitsu will continue to provide CaaS to a wide range of customers, including research and educational institutions, government agencies, and private companies. I will continue. We will also contribute to the development of specialist engineers.
