Architectural VR company Geocreates launches survey of shoppers with VR that reproduces actual supermarket stores
– Accelerating product display and package design AB testing and data accumulation for AI by building a digital twin metaverse –

Geocreates Co., Ltd. (head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Tsukasa Honda; hereinafter Geocreates) has collaborated with the Distribution Economics Research Institute (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Chairman Shigehiro Aoyama; hereinafter referred to as the Distribution Economics Research Institute) to We are pleased to inform you that we have started investigating the purchasing behavior of shoppers in a VR (Virtual Reality) space that reproduces a real supermarket in the suburbs of Tokyo.

Until now, in experiments at physical stores, there have been problems such as the inability to display products that have not yet been sold, the management difficulty of changing the display of products, and the difficulty of conducting long-term experiments in stores with a large number of test subjects. had.
This experiment aims to solve these problems with VR. Geocreates, which has many achievements in commercial design VR creation, reproduced a real supermarket store in the suburbs of Tokyo in VR and built it as a digital twin Metaverse. By building an environment where even a large number of people can experiment by walking and measuring eye gaze and brain waves like in a real environment, it is possible to obtain insights that approach the overall picture of the shopping experience of shoppers. We will comprehensively evaluate product package design and space design, which are divided into areas, and promote the use of AI tools, and analyze the correlation with purchasing motivation and sales.

In addition to the research and AI limited to shelf front and package design that we have been conducting so far, we are promoting development with an emphasis on measuring a series of spatial experiences from searching and finding products to purchasing. Starting this fiscal year, we plan to conduct experiments with general subjects on commission from several companies, and we plan to increase the number of store types and product types from the next fiscal year onwards. By applying the survey data to eye gaze and emotion AI, we will work with the distribution economics research institute and food and daily necessities manufacturers participating in the study group sponsored by the institute to provide shoppers in stores that are more in line with the actual situation. We aim to create designs that enrich the purchasing experience.

Verification of the VR walking experience at the Ryutsu Keizai Institute (It is possible to accumulate data such as line of sight by walking with high accuracy up to a range of 10m x 10m.
We will conduct a comprehensive verification in parallel with surveys at local stores as appropriate.)

ToPolog is a SaaS type tool that can store spatial experience data in the cloud in association with VR and digital twins without limiting VR software or devices. Equipped with three modes, CAP, 360, and WEB, it quantifies the spatial experience value and improves design efficiency by measuring and AI-estimating line-of-sight and brain waves from design studies, field surveys, and on-site VR. and quality can be improved.
In this project, we will build a system to analyze data in association with the digital twin metaverse of actual supermarket stores and promote the use of AI tools.

With the vision of “the best spatial experience for everyone!”, we are developing SaaS for VR “ToPolog” that quantifies the value of spatial experience. Based on the results of involvement in various interior, architecture and urban programs in Japan and overseas, we grasp the issues between designers, business owners and end users, and measure and estimate line-of-sight and brain waves in VR at the design stage and before and after design. We will create a database and AI to democratize space design for real estate and retail.
