National University Corporation Okayama University (Headquarters: Tsushima Junior High School, Kita-ku, Okayama City; President: Hiroshi Makino) is an international trend that accelerates youth engagement efforts with a view to achieving the SDGs and the Paris Agreement promoted by Okayama University. 13 October 2022- On the 14th, Senior Vice-Chancellor Atsufumi Yokoi, UNESCO Chairholder, and others from the Global Engagement Office of TUFS visited the University of Bath, one of the top universities in the UK.
This visit was held as a meeting to build inter-university
collaboration with the University of Bath, which is a partner institution of the world’s largest next-generation leaders global summit “One Young World (OYW)”, just like our university.
On the first day, Senior Vice President Yokoi and others visited the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Bath. Associate Dean/Professor Louise Brown, Emily Richards Business Engagement Manager, and OYW Delegate Partner at the University of Bath exchanged opinions.

University of Bath, UK
Among them, the University of Bath is ranked 7th in the country in the UK university ranking “The Guardian University Guide 2023”, and it is highly evaluated for actively supporting student exchanges and student activities. It was introduced that it is a top-level comprehensive university in the UK, such as being awarded “University of the Year” in “The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023”. In response, Senior Vice President Yokoi introduced the university’s strategies and initiatives for global engagement. Starting with promoting “Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)” as one of the world’s hub regions, we are the only national university to receive the special prize of the “1st Japan SDGs Award”. In addition to winning awards, we have recently strengthened our partnership with UN agencies, working with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the United Nations University for Peace (UPEACE), Earth Charter International (ECI), etc. We discussed the promotion of young female researchers from developing countries and the development of next-generation leadership at a high global level. Based on these, we have reached a basic agreement to strengthen inter-university collaboration in OYW at both universities as OYW partner institutions.
After that, he visited the University of Bath Business School (School of Management). He met with Rajani Naidoo, Vice President, Community and Inclusion, Vice President, Community and Inclusion, and UNESCO Chairholder of the university. We reached a basic agreement to further promote educational and research exchanges for the sake of human and planetary wellbeing of all.
He also visited the Japanese Embassy in the UK and met with Ambassador Hajime Hayashi. He introduced a wide range of topics such as British history, politics, and culture, comparing them with those of Japan.He pointed out Japan’s position in the world based on his experience as a diplomat, and talked about the role of universities and human resource development. In addition to their opinions, we received a deep understanding and advice regarding the collaboration between Okayama University and the University of Bath.

○Next Generation Leader Global Summit One Young World (OYW)
It was declared at the 2009 World Economic Forum, also known as the Davos Conference (World Economic Forum, headquarters: Geneva, Switzerland), and since it was held in London, the capital of the United Kingdom, in 2010, more than 190 countries around the world gather once a year. It is one of the world’s largest summits where representative young leaders (ages 18-30) gather together. As a global joint industry-government-academia collaboration project to develop the next generation of leaders to solve problems in collaboration with the next generation of leaders under the leadership of world leaders, We continue to expand our network rapidly.
Summit attendees will be awarded the title of “OYW Ambassador” and will be able to develop long-term connections with approximately 10,000 talented young people around the world.
