Shikoku Aquarium A Cape Penguin chick was born for the first time in a year and a half
Growing well in the backyard

At the Shikoku Aquarium (located in Utazu Town, Kagawa Prefecture), one Cape Penguin chick was born on October 24, 2022 (Monday). Currently, the exhibition of Cape penguins is suspended due to measures to prevent infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza, and all Cape penguins, including chicks, are spending their time indoors.

A chick under its parent’s stomach (taken on October 28, 2022) The chicks that were born after about a year and a half are the museum’s first natural breeding chicks, and are growing well under their parents. Parents can be seen feeding the chicks mouth-to-mouth and preening their wings, and both parents are actively raising their children.
It is a pity that you will not be able to see the appearance of fluffy cotton feathers that can only be seen until 2 to 3 months after birth, and how parents and children spend time together. I will send it to you, so please take a look.
