– Learn about career changes from different industries to the IT industry, studying in the United States and career paths –
Waffle (Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative: Sayaka Tanaka, hereinafter referred to as Waffle), a specified non-profit organization that aims to eliminate the gender gap in the IT field, will hold the online event “Waffle Festival” on December 16 ( It will be held on Friday) and 17th (Saturday).
We are widely recruiting participants from corporate executives, DE&I (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) personnel, junior high and high school students who will watch this event.
On the first day (December 16th), companies and female (*) students will be introduced to the efforts of leading companies in Japan regarding ESG and DE&I. The second day (December 17th) is a session mainly aimed at female junior high and high school students. The purpose is to provide information on specific career paths by role models who are active in the IT industry, and to expand career options.
We hope that through the two days, we will be able to take a step towards closing the gender gap in the domestic IT field.
(*) Including those who have a female identity, are non-binary, and are gender nonconforming, regardless of their gender.
Background of the event
Despite consistently achieving top-level scores among OECD member countries in the PISA international academic achievement survey, Japan has the lowest rate among OECD member countries, with 3.4% of female students wishing to pursue careers in the fields of science and engineering.
Until now, Waffle has delivered opportunities for IT education and career education to female junior and senior high school students, but there are not many role models around, and opportunities to learn about specific careers and careers related to IT. I had a problem with the small amount. In addition, it is necessary not only for junior high school students and university students but also for companies to spread DE&I in the company and create more places where women can play an active role in the entire IT industry. This time, we decided to hold this event in order to provide an in-depth talk by an active engineer and a place to think from the perspective of ESG, and to provide an opportunity for many women to play an active role in the IT field.
