Utena Co., Ltd. will start an initiative to donate a portion of the limited sales of hair oil and oil mist from the hair care brand “Yuzu Oil” to promote yuzu production in Kitagawa Village, Kochi Prefecture. Limited items eligible for donation will be sold at Welcia Group stores from November 6, 2022.
Our yuzu oil donation activity, which we started last year, has been very well received by our customers, who say that we can contribute to the local community in our daily consumption activities. This year, we will add “Yuzu oil” oil mist to the target products.
Yuzu Oil, a hair care brand, makes effective use of yuzu seeds from Kitagawa Village, which were originally supposed to be discarded, and extracts the oil to use in the product. Stable production of high-quality yuzu is essential for yuzu oil. Utena will continue to support the production area so that Kitagawa Village can continue to produce high-quality yuzu.

Utena and the Welcia Group (Welcia Pharmacy Yodoya) support the yuzu production area as partners in Kitagawa Village, Kochi Prefecture. Kitagawa Village in Kochi Prefecture is one of Japan’s leading yuzu producing areas, continuing to cultivate yuzu since the Edo period. Its high quality is highly evaluated, such as exporting to the EU in the form of fruits and vegetables for the first time in Japan. However, the reality is that there are various issues facing the yuzu industry in the future, such as the declining population, the aging of yuzu farmers, and problems with successors.
Utena and the Welcia Group (Welcia Pharmacy and Yodoya) have signed a comprehensive partnership agreement with Kitagawa Village to develop products using Kitagawa Village Yuzu, branding, support for Yuzu farmers, and hometown education for children. We are working on solving problems.
Donate a portion of sales of “Yuzu oil” limited edition products. The donation will be used to promote yuzu production in Kitagawa Village. Utena will donate 50 yen to Kitagawa Village in Kochi Prefecture for each bottle sold from the hair care brand Yuzu Oil. Donations will be used to purchase agricultural machinery for plant maintenance. By maintaining the orchard, labor-saving cultivation using agricultural machinery can be realized, which can lead to improved productivity and expansion of the scale of management.

In Kitagawa Village, there was no technology to extract oil from the seeds, so the yuzu seeds had to be discarded. Kitagawa Village and Utena worked together to extract high-quality oil from this rare material.

The hair oil uses an ecological bottle that uses more than 90% recycled glass. The oil mist uses biomass PET, which is a

3. Support for harvesting yuzu fruit
According to Kitagawa Village, the number of yuzu farmers is declining and the number of yuzu farmers is aging, resulting in a shortage of workers.
Therefore, Utena employees and Welcia Group employees help with the harvest every year during the peak harvest season.

4. Educational support for children
Utena employees serve as instructors and give hometown classes to elementary and junior high school students in Kitagawa Village. In November 2022, we jointly developed a facial soap using yuzu with junior high school students. We also support children’s education. [Image 6
