On Sunday, January 22, 2023, Seibundo Shinkosha Co., Ltd. (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo), which publishes the magazine “Kodomo no Kagaku”, will open a research institute for discovering talents for elementary and junior high school students “NEST LAB.” We will hold a workshop “DNA Extraction – See Your DNA with Your Eyes” in collaboration with the company NEST EdLAB).

“Kodomo no Kagaku”, a scientific magazine for elementary and junior high school students, holds online events to provide readers with various scientific experiences. One of the most popular is the monthly premium workshop series where you can learn familiar science, manufacturing, technology, and sustainable science in collaboration with NEST LAB., a talent discovery research institute for elementary and junior high school students. On Sunday, January 22, 2023, as the fourth installment, we will hold a workshop to unlock the secrets of living things by extracting your own DNA.
The world is inhabited by many creatures with various characteristics such as color, shape, and movement. We will learn how these
characteristics are determined by observing DNA, which is the blueprint of living things.

In this workshop, you can experience part of the curriculum of NEST LAB.’s “Sustainable Science Major”. In the Sustainable Science Major at NEST LAB., we will repeatedly explore the mysteries of
microorganisms, insects, and plants that live on the earth through observation and experiments.

NEST LAB. is an online research school for elementary and junior high school students with the theme of “cultivating what you like and creating knowledge.”
Discover and develop the talents of each child through NEST education (the only private company selected for the JST “Junior Doctor Training School” project) based on the know-how that Leave a Nest, a group of researchers, has cultivated for 20 years.
