KIMONOMACHI (Kyoto Kimonomachi Co., Ltd., Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Representative Director: Kazufumi Kubomura), a Kyoto-based Japanese clothing brand and subsidiary of Hyosai Co., Ltd., announced the new Fall/Winter 2025 collection of its original “Kimono Lucky Bag” series on September 25th at the online Japanese clothing store “Kyoto Kimonomachi.” Sales will begin on September 30th at the online store.

The concept is “an everyday kimono worn like a dress.” The “Kimono Lucky Bag” is a collection of original women’s casual kimonos that have been carefully designed and produced by our designers in collaboration with our Kyoto design studio for over 15 years. Supported by many fans every year, it has become a popular series representing the KIMONOMACHI brand. When it comes to kimonos, the general image is that they are worn on special occasions such as coming-of-age ceremonies and weddings. The “Kimono Lucky Bag” series proposes a lifestyle in which kimonos can be enjoyed casually, like a dress, even when going to a cafe, shopping, or other everyday outings. Wide range of sizes, easy to wash at home, and affordable prices Unusually for a Japanese clothing brand, Kimono Lucky Bag offers a wide range of sizes, including S, M, L, and LL, making it easy to choose a size that suits your height and body type. Furthermore, to address traditional concerns such as “difficult to handle” and “worried about getting dirty,” the kimonos are made from polyester material that can be washed at home. They are popular with many customers as affordable casual kimonos that can be worn in the same way as Western clothing or yukata.

Kimonomachi’s past designs, including small flowers, branching flowers, classic patterns, and designs that blend Japanese and Western elements. The motifs were created by collecting Kimonomachi staff’s “I love this!” and “I want it now” ideas, and were compiled with a variety of references, from recent trends to classic Yuzen patterns. The “Kimono Lucky Bag” series is also attractive for its wide range of sizes, so we have taken into consideration the size of the pattern and the balance of the white space so that it will look good in any size. Design introduction Silver Osmanthus For the past few years, KIMONOMACHI’s “Kimono Lucky Bag” series has always included small floral designs, with the theme of “small floral patterns that can be worn with a sophisticated look.” Following on from mimosa, lily of the valley, and baby’s breath, this year’s small floral pattern is silver osmanthus. The use of white flowers creates a calm and refined atmosphere, perfect for mature women. It’s also a design that’s easy to coordinate and versatile. The elegant and mysterious atmosphere of the Osmanthus creates a sophisticated impression. The lining is indigo ink. Arabesque and Nandina (Arabesque and Nandina) The inspiration for this collection was a design that would complement Japanese gardens and Kyoto townhouses. However, to allow for a variety of styles, we aimed for a design that incorporates a Western touch rather than being purely Japanese. This is a Japanese-Western hybrid series that combines classic Japanese plants with exotic arabesque patterns. The nandina (nandin) is used as the plant motif, not its flower, but its fruit. A key point is that the nandina is not separated by an outline, but rather is depicted with a soft blur, like in Japanese paintings. The arabesque, with its exquisite color scheme that is neither too prominent nor too subdued against the background, avoids a monotonous impression and creates a sophisticated atmosphere. As evidenced by the treasures of the Shosoin Repository and famous textiles, foreign-style patterns have been prized in Japan since ancient times, so Japanese motifs and foreign arabesque patterns are surprisingly well-matched. It is an attractive design that harmonizes Japanese and Western styles, like a hanging scroll with arabesque and geometric patterned mounting cloth. Black

Clouds and Peony, Flower Pattern (Kumoni Botan, Hanamon) This is a classic floral pattern series, characterized as “casually wearable antique kimonos.” As befits a Kyoto-based brand, the motifs were chosen with reference to Yuzen designs. This season’s main motif is the peony. This was chosen based on the color theme, and the vibrant and elegant peony was chosen as a flower that complements the classic color red. The red color was also adjusted many times while checking the finished product. I actually wanted to add gold and silver to create a more Yuzen-like look, but that was difficult, so I used dark beige and gray clouds instead. This kimono combines the best of both worlds, allowing you to enjoy the traditional kimono of flowers, haze, and clouds with the casualness of a polyester kimono. It’s perfect for Japanese occasions, such as New Year’s outings or strolling around Kyoto. To fully express the ideals of magnolia lovers, the designer extracted the magnolia’s charms—its soft petals and flowing branches—from the archives, and a flower-loving Kimonomachi staff member provided a photo of a white magnolia taken at Gojo Park, near the office. The design was then created with the magnolia’s beautiful features in mind. Thanks to this, the design vividly captures the branches that branch out finely, reaching ever higher, and the flowers that bloom toward the sky and then suddenly fade away.
