This exhibition is a photo exhibition of photographer Taiji Matsue. He continues to produce works using the method of collecting place names. Since starting his career as an artist, he has focused on two main works: the “gazetteer” series, which collects nature such as deserts, forests, mountains, and plains from around the world, and the “CC” series, which collects cities. By choosing a time and direction where shadows do not occur, and by eliminating the sky and horizon, the photograph pursues flatness, and with a clarity that has been described as “absolute focus,” the elements reflected in every corner of the photograph emerge equally. It rises and reveals details that were invisible to the naked eye.
This exhibition presents 26 new, unpublished works carefully selected from hundreds of “gazetteer” and “CC” works captured with unique techniques that penetrate the essence of photography.
All exhibited works will be printed and exhibited using Canon’s large format printer “imagePROGRAF”.
