SASSEN is a sport that originated in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, which was born from karate and self-defense. It is active as a digital sport that anyone can easily enjoy while retaining the goodness of learning etiquette. This time, a visiting class was held in the physical education class at Fujisawa Municipal Oshimizu Elementary School (Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture).
What is SASSEN

All you need is a smartphone.
[Image 3

The tools are only a 70 cm long polyethylene foam sword “SASSEN Katana” with built-in sensors and a smartphone (tablet). If you hit the body other than the head, it will become one, and the application will perform the hit judgment. The SASSEN sword was patented on December 22, 2016 (No. 6062592 “Sports Engagement Device”)
The winner will be either “best two” or “the one with the highest number of runs within the 60 seconds of competition time”. Attacking is up to 5 swings (5 strokes) per person, and after that you can only defend, so it also has the aspect of a brain battle to think about how to make the most of the limited attack opportunities. It was born from the desire to create an event that everyone who participates, spectates, and supports can understand and enjoy.

Experience session by an instructor certified by the All Japan Sassen Association
[Image 7

Our association’s certified instructors acted as moderators and referees while considering safety. I gave a lecture to the students with a brief explanation of SASSEN’s upbringing. Most students are playing for the first time. A heated battle unfolded.
Reflection on this class (partial excerpt)
・It was good that the children were active happily.
・It was the first sport and movement for all children, so everyone was able to try without feeling any disparity in skills.
・Students who are usually active and good at sports and those who don’t tend to exercise much (those who are not good at sports) were seen playing games on an equal footing.
It was great to see everyone watching the game and cheering each other on. ・I felt that one of the attractions of Sassen is that adults and children can seriously compete against each other.
・Because it was their first time playing sports, it seemed very attractive to the children. Many enthusiastic participants were seen. You can hold a business trip experience meeting at schools all over the country [Image 8

You can create an opportunity for your students to come into contact with a completely new technology. It is possible to dispatch certified instructors all over the country. Also, if you are far away, you can also hold a complete remote trial session. (Reference: Remote experience session held at Kiyosato Town Board of Education (Kiyosato Town, Shari District, Hokkaido)

The big attraction is that it’s not just a game SASSEN is not only about playing games, but there are an infinite number of recreational activities that you can enjoy without fighting, such as “watermelon splitting”, “frustrating stick”, and “tag”. Even those who do not want to compete can create an environment where everyone can easily touch digital technology through Sassen.
