Georgia, a wine powerhouse with a history of 8000 years
Georgia, located in the Caucasus region where Asia and Europe meet, has developed as a cornerstone of east-west trade since ancient times, and has nurtured a long history and tradition of wine making for 8,000 years based on the blessings of a warm climate and fertile land. . Traces of wine brewing have been found in earthenware excavated from ruins around 6000 BC in southeastern Georgia. The method of making wine using unglazed clay vessels (Qvevri) has been passed down to this day, and in 2013 it was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. There are more than 1000 wineries in Georgia, and home-made wine is enjoyed in ordinary households.
Winery Khareba is one of Georgia’s leading wineries. Owning more than 500 hectares of vineyards, it produces more than 50 types of wine using traditional Qvevri manufacturing methods and modern European styles, and is loved all over the world.
