Infection prevention measures for those who are worried about side effects and aftereffects from vaccination against the new Corona Omicron
Judgment materials for the 4th and 5th vaccination based on the amount of antibody, vaccination history, and infection history
According to the October questionnaire survey by the Tokyo Infectious Disease Control Center, people are worried about the next 4th or 5th vaccination because of the reasons such as “adverse reactions were painful” and “I feel sick” from past vaccinations. more than 60% of the total. Since so many people are worried about the next
vaccination, we thought it would be significant to consider ways to alleviate that anxiety, so we conducted a survey.
In this report, we investigated whether conventional vaccination (monovalent) could have developed antibodies against the Omicron strain. Based on this result, we will consider whether knowing the amount of antibody (antibody titer) against the Omicron strain can be used as a reference for examining the necessity of vaccination. Domestic vaccination status is 84,505,851 people for the 3rd time and 50,027,848 people for the 4th time. (as of December 6)
[Survey overview]
Period: September 12th to December 1st, 2022
Subjects: 54 Japanese who have not been vaccinated after receiving the 3rd and 4th conventional vaccines (monovalent). (Of these, 40 people who were recognized as valid subjects by our company and whose NP antibodies (antibodies that can be produced when infected) were not detected)
Note) Persons who have not been vaccinated against Omicron vaccine (bivalent) Method: In order to investigate antibodies against Omicron strains (BA5, BA2, BA1), antibodies against spike protein fragments (receptor binding regions * 1) of conventional strains and Omicron strains are tested with EasyDoc (R) “Mutant strain antibody test” We did a quantitative test.
【Survey results】
Antibody tests were conducted at our in-house laboratory, and antibodies against the Omicron strain were detected even when only the conventional vaccine (monovalent) was administered.

In addition, the median antibody level (antibody titer) for those more than 90 days*3 after inoculation was lower than the reference value (120 AU/ml)*2 set by our company. From this, it is presumed that the amount of antibody (antibody titer) against the mutant strain decreases after 90 days or more after inoculation. This result is in line with the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s report*4, which suggests immune attenuation over time.
Supplement: 10% of those less than 90 days after vaccination and 20% of those more than 90 days after vaccination did not detect antibodies against all Omicron variants.
Next, regarding antibodies to Omicron BA.5 (BA.4), which is currently prevalent, we divided the samples according to whether they were above or below our standard value (120 AU/ml), and how the ratio varied depending on the number of days after vaccination. I checked whether it changes to

Only in the 3rd and 4th conventional vaccine (monovalent) vaccination, the ratio of those whose antibody level (antibody titer) against the Omicron BA.5 (BA.4) strain is less than the reference value is 90 after vaccination Even less than a day showed a high value of 60%. Furthermore, the percentage increased to 77% in those who passed 90 days or more after vaccination.
【summary】
In this survey, it was found that some people retained antibodies to the Omicron strain only by inoculating the 3rd and 4th conventional vaccines (monovalent). When the subjects were divided into 3 months (approximately 90 days), which is the interval at which vaccination is possible, and investigated, the antibodies against the Omicron BA.5 (BA.4) strain were maintained above the standard value in less than 90 days. tended to be more likely to do so. However, after 90 days or more, it became clear that the percentage of non-antibodies to the Omicron BA.5 (BA.4) strain increased.
There are individual differences in antibody retention. Therefore, by examining the antibodies against the prevalent Omicron strain, you can know how much antibody (antibody titer) you have, and you can “get peace of mind” and “prepare for infection prevention.” ‘, or ‘considering the need for vaccination’. It may be a good idea to consult with your doctor about vaccination, using the results of the antibody test against the Omicron strain as one of the criteria for making a decision.

Until now, even if it was found that antibodies were created by infection or vaccination in antibody tests, it was not possible to know which mutants had antibodies.
For this reason, Protex Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Wako City, Saitama Prefecture, Representative Director: Masao Nishizaki) has developed an easy doctor that can test antibodies against four types of Omicron strains BA5, BA2, BA1, and conventional strains at home. (R) We provide “mutant strain antibody test”.

[Omicron strain mutation trends in 2022]
According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the BA5 strain currently accounts for more than 90% of new coronavirus infections. And when the Tokyo Metropolitan Government analyzed the samples of infected people in Tokyo, it was said that BA1 was prevalent from January to March, BA2 was prevalent from April to June, and BA5 was prevalent from July onwards.

There are individual differences in the degree to which antibodies are produced by vaccination or infection. In addition, it is known that the amount of antibody (antibody titer) that rises once after vaccination decreases as the days pass. By doing the Easy Doc (R) Mutant Strain Antibody Test, you can know how effective the vaccine is and how much the antibody has decreased several months after the vaccination.
[Benefits of taking an inspection]
When consulting with a doctor about the necessity and timing of vaccination, I think that you can get suggestions about vaccination by checking the presence or absence of the amount of antibody (antibody titer). In addition, it may be a good idea to use it as a relief material for the year-end and New Year holidays, exams, year-end parties, and New Year’s parties.
Knowing that you or someone in your family has sufficient antibodies will give you peace of mind in your daily life. Also, if you know that your antibody level (antibody titer) is low, you can pay more attention when traveling or watching sports.

[Commentary]
*1 An antibody that binds to the receptor binding region can be a neutralizing antibody.
*2 The standard value (120 AU/ml) refers to the amount of antibody (antibody titer) that is estimated to have a sufficient virus-blocking effect in experiments using cultured cells (this estimate is based on experimental results. ). However, it does not mean that the effect will be lost if the value falls below this standard value, and the probability of exhibiting a sufficient effect is said to decrease according to the amount of antibody (antibody titer) (for antibodies against conventional strains, half the standard value). probability of about 80%).
*3 Details of the number of days elapsed for “more than 90 days after vaccination (median value)” are 235 days on average, 94 days minimum, and 495 days maximum.
