Hoonko Memorial Service Osai (Toki)-Hojin Cuisine
Entertainment-Scheduled to be held for the first time in 3 years (advance applications accepted)
From January 9th (Monday) to 16th (Monday), 2023 (Reiwa 5), a memorial service will be held.
In honor of Shinran Shonin, who founded Jodo Shinshu Buddhism on the anniversary of his death (January 16, 1263 – November 28, 1263) It is the most important Buddhist memorial service in Jodo Shinshu Buddhism to repay gratitude for the salvation by the Vow of Amida Nyorai. The name “Hoonko” comes from the “Hoonkoshiki (private account)” written by the 3rd head priest of Hongan-ji Temple, Kakunyo, on the 33rd anniversary of the saint’s death.
Every year from January 9th to 26th, Hongan-ji Temple holds a memorial service. This year, from the perspective of preventing the spread of COVID-19, we will set up screens and monitors at Miedo, where the memorial service is held, and Amida-do, etc., to relay the state of the memorial service in consideration of physical distancing.
This memorial service will also be streamed online, so if you are unable to come, please watch it at home.
For details, please check the Honganji website.
