◆Overview
On December 2, 2022, the National University Corporation Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita Ward, Okayama City; President: Hiroshi Makino) held a round-table conference between current students and Executive Vice President Hiroaki Funabashi (in charge of Academic Affairs). This round-table conference was planned and held with the aim of enabling current students and the Executive Vice President to have direct dialogue and share new perspectives and issues with each other, in order to improve education at Okayama University.
In the morning, a total of 14 undergraduate students attended the conference, one from each faculty/department. At the beginning, Vice President Funahashi explained the themes of “English education” and “liberal education”, and all the students exchanged opinions on each theme.
In response to questions such as, “Do you feel that comprehensive English skills are necessary?” and “What do you think about the introduction of external certification exams?” So, I want you to incorporate communication into your classes,” and “I want you to develop classes that match your goals in learning English.”

In the afternoon, a total of 17 graduate students, one from each graduate school and major, attended and exchanged opinions on “English education” and “support measures.” In response to questions such as “Is there enough support for graduate students?” and “What support measures are necessary to increase the number of students going on to graduate school?” There were opinions such as “I want you to reinforce your career support” and “We should reinforce career support and enrich the employment opportunities from graduate school.”
The meeting was held in a relaxed atmosphere from start to finish, and opinions were freely exchanged. Many positive comments were received from the participants, such as “I was able to participate without being nervous” and “I was able to communicate things I would not normally be able to communicate.” rice field. It was a valuable opportunity for the university to exchange opinions, which will serve as a reference for improving education in the future.
