◆Overview
National University Corporation Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City, President: Hiroshi Makino) Okayama University Civilization Dynamics Research Institute will hold the 4th “Youth Participation to Change the Region-Basic Analysis of Advanced Cases-” Study Group in 2022 It was held at Niimi City Hall on Saturday, December 17, 2017. 50 people attended the meeting.
At a study group titled “Practical Community Development at Niimi High School”, Associate Professor Yasushi Iwabuchi introduced Niimi High School’s initiatives as “sovereign education to change the region.” Students from Niimi High School analyzed and presented how new collaborations are being created in Niimi City by increasing dialogue on community development through petition activities. In addition, citizens, government, and parliament introduced examples of advanced urban development that support the development of young people. In addition, Professor Yoshio Maeda, Tokai University Faculty of Humanities and Sciences Interdisciplinary Faculty, Dean, and Professor, “Changes in students through local learning” introduced. He introduced the point of view that there may be a gap between the changes that adults envision and the growth of children, and that children are not starting to move toward the goals set by adults. At the general discussion, three students who participated in sovereignty education reviewed their classes and petitions. The students said that the sovereignty education provided them with an opportunity to learn about the charm of their region, and that they were surprised to learn about diverse opinions through group work. A participant from the venue said, “Niimi City has the advantage of continuing to learn in the community not only in high school but also in elementary and junior high schools, but on the other hand, it is difficult to convey the activities of young people to younger children.” it was done. In addition, there was an opinion that “It was very meaningful to reconfirm the education of Niimi High School and share it in the midst of the problem of high school consolidation in a society with a declining population.”
