◆Overview
Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita Ward, Okayama City; President: Hiroshi Makino) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) jointly run the 2022 “Joint Research and Training Course for Young Female Researchers from Developing Countries.” : Young Female Scientist Program in Japan”, we are accepting 14 researchers from African and ASEAN countries. On November 25, 2022, the third group of three young female researchers visited Japan and paid a courtesy visit to President Hiroshi Makino.
The courtesy visit was attended by Senior Vice President Atsufumi Yokoi (Special Mission (Global Engagement Strategy)) and Vice President Takayoshi Suzuki (International Affairs). A young female researcher talked about her career and research plans to be
implemented at the university, and President Makino introduced related initiatives at the university.

On January 9, 2020, Okayama University and UNCTAD formed the world’s first comprehensive collaboration as a university to develop human resources for science, technology and innovation (STI for SDGs) to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Sign an agreement. Based on this agreement, “Joint Research and Training Course for Young Female Scientists from Developing Countries: Young Female Scientist Program in Japan” is aimed at young female researchers from developing countries in ASEAN countries and African countries in UNCTAD member countries. In addition, we conduct short-term joint research and training from two weeks to one month. Due to the influence of the new coronavirus infection, the first period, 2021, was conducted online, but in 2022, 14 people (8 from South Africa, 2 from Gambia, 1 each from Egypt, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and the
Philippines) ) will participate and will be in Japan from October to next February.
Taking this project as an opportunity, Okayama University will strengthen its cooperation with UNCTAD, the core organization of the United Nations that implements and operates STI for SDGs. To go. [Image 4

Located in Geneva, it is the central body of the United Nations that comprehensively addresses relevant issues of trade and development, finance, investment, technology and sustainable development. It aims to maximize trade, investment and development opportunities for developing countries, assist them in facing challenges arising from globalization, and integrate them into the world economy on an equal footing.
