Held Christmas illuminations to kick off the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Tokyo City Park System
2023 will mark the 150th anniversary of the opening of the first metropolitan park.

The year 2023 will mark the 150th anniversary of the opening of a metropolitan park. From January 2023 to March 2024, we will work on the “150th Anniversary Commemorative Project of the Establishment of the Tokyo City Park System” to further communicate the appeal of metropolitan parks to the citizens of Tokyo.
As a kickoff event for this commemorative project, the “Flower and Light Movement” venue currently being held at Komazawa Olympic Park will be decorated with Christmas trees decorated with illuminations from December 10th to 25th.
On December 10th, the first day, a lighting ceremony will be held as follows. [Image 1

About the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the city park system On January 15, 1873, Daijokan Proclamation No. 16 started the city park system in Japan, and Ueno Park and Shiba Park were opened as the first metropolitan parks.
The year 2023 will be the year commemorating the 150th anniversary of the opening of the metropolitan parks by this Grand Council of State Proclamation.
While looking back on the history of metropolitan parks and the roles they have played so far, we are cooperating with the national government and related organizations to organize the “150th
Anniversary Commemorative Project of the Establishment of the Tokyo City Parks System” in order to communicate the appeal of parks and provide an opportunity for further development. We will continue to work together.
