The Hitotsuse River, which flows along the town of Shintomi-cho, Miyazaki Prefecture, has water quality that is suitable for eels, so that natural eels can be caught.
Shintomi-cho has long been famous for eel farming, even within Miyazaki Prefecture, because there is an abundance of groundwater that springs up around the river, and the water is used to grow eels in an environment close to nature.
