Alibaba Group’s travel service platform Fliggy announced on January 16 that the number of Chinese travelers traveling long distances during the year-end and New Year holidays has increased due to the relaxation of movement restrictions due to the corona pandemic.
According to Fliggy data, between 31 December 2022 and 2 January 2023, long-distance travel across cities and provinces accounted for 80% of all bookings made on the platform, with bookings It has been revealed that the number will peak in 2022. Younger generations born after the 1990s account for more than 70% of all bookings, with Shanghai, Chengdu, Beijing and Sanya, the southernmost city on Hainan Island in China, being the most popular destinations.
Regarding activities during the trip, reservations for southern islands and surfing increased sixfold year-on-year, and snowboarding and snow-related tours more than tripled year-on-year. Demand for overseas travel is also increasing, and the number of overseas travel reservations for the year-end and New Year holidays has tripled year-on-year.
