Fujicco Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kobe City / President and CEO: Shoichi Fukui) uses “black soybean polyphenol” as a functional component to “reduce the temporary fatigue caused by display work such as personal computers and smartphones.” We submitted a notification to the Consumer Affairs Agency about functionally labeled foods related to the function of “reducing”, and it was accepted on December 28, 2022.
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of people who feel fatigued by working on displays such as PCs and smartphones called VDTs (Visual Display Terminals) for long periods of time. Behind this is the expansion of digitization of work, the spread of smartphones, and the promotion of telecommuting. As a countermeasure against these, in 2019, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare formulated the “Guidelines for Occupational Health Management in Information Equipment Work”. According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of 16,000 workers engaged in clerical work, sales, etc. in Japan, 87.5% of the total use computer equipment, and 68.6% of them have physical problems. He had fatigue and symptoms (Fig. 1). According to Dr. Watanabe of RIKEN,
overactivity such as working on a display for a long time increases oxidative stress in the body, and it is thought that the autonomic nervous system is disturbed, leading to fatigue1).

We have developed black soybean polyphenol “Chronocare (R)”, a functional material extracted and refined from black soybean seed coats, and have conducted various functional studies. “Chronocare (R)” contains more than 58% of polyphenols (mainly low-molecular-weight proanthocyanidins) and has a very high antioxidant effect. In order to verify the effect on fatigue caused by display work, we conducted a human test in which 100 mg of “Chronocare (R)” was taken for 4 weeks and fatigue was increased by computer work for 2 hours. As a result, we were able to confirm that the intake of “Chronocare (R)” reduced the feeling of fatigue (Fig. 2). As a mechanism, it was thought that fatigue caused by display work was reduced by reducing oxidative stress in the body and adjusting autonomic nerve function.
