Fujicco Co., Ltd. Relieves temporary fatigue caused by work on displays such as PCs and smartphones

Fujicco Co., Ltd.
Relieves temporary fatigue caused by display work on PCs, smartphones, etc. – Black soy polyphenol “Chronocare (R)” has received a notification of a new food with functional claims –

Fujicco Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kobe City / President and CEO: Shoichi Fukui) uses “black soybean polyphenol” as a functional component to “reduce the temporary fatigue caused by display work such as personal computers and smartphones.” We submitted a notification to the Consumer Affairs Agency about functionally labeled foods related to the function of “reducing”, and it was accepted on December 28, 2022.
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of people who feel fatigued by working on displays such as PCs and smartphones called VDTs (Visual Display Terminals) for long periods of time. Behind this is the expansion of digitization of work, the spread of smartphones, and the promotion of telecommuting. As a countermeasure against these, in 2019, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare formulated the “Guidelines for Occupational Health Management in Information Equipment Work”. According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of 16,000 workers engaged in clerical work, sales, etc. in Japan, 87.5% of the total use computer equipment, and 68.6% of them have physical problems. He had fatigue and symptoms (Fig. 1). According to Dr. Watanabe of RIKEN,
overactivity such as working on a display for a long time increases oxidative stress in the body, and it is thought that the autonomic nervous system is disturbed, leading to fatigue1).

We have developed black soybean polyphenol “Chronocare (R)”, a functional material extracted and refined from black soybean seed coats, and have conducted various functional studies. “Chronocare (R)” contains more than 58% of polyphenols (mainly low-molecular-weight proanthocyanidins) and has a very high antioxidant effect. In order to verify the effect on fatigue caused by display work, we conducted a human test in which 100 mg of “Chronocare (R)” was taken for 4 weeks and fatigue was increased by computer work for 2 hours. As a result, we were able to confirm that the intake of “Chronocare (R)” reduced the feeling of fatigue (Fig. 2). As a mechanism, it was thought that fatigue caused by display work was reduced by reducing oxidative stress in the body and adjusting autonomic nerve function.

(systematic review) was created and submitted to the Consumer Affairs Agency. "Black soy polyphenol" is the first food with functional claims that includes the phrase "reduces temporary fatigue caused by display work" in "functionality to be displayed". As a social background, fatigue and drowsiness caused by computer work reduce labor productivity 2-4), and long-term sitting posture affects vascular diseases such as the formation of thrombi in the deep veins of the legs 5). These are problems, and it is considered that further measures are necessary due to the recent penetration of telecommuting. Prior to this notification, "black soy polyphenol" has also been accepted for its function of "reducing temporary daytime sleepiness" and "maintaining the flexibility of blood vessels that decline with age". . In the future, we plan to develop our own new foods with functional claims and sell materials such as beverages and supplements as functional food ingredients so that "black soy polyphenol" can help solve such social issues. am. 1) Watanabe, Y. [Notification contents of functional claims] Notification number H777 Notification label This product contains black soybean polyphenol. It has been reported that black soybean polyphenol has the function of reducing transient fatigue caused by display work such as personal computers and smartphones. Functional ingredients Black soybean polyphenol 58mg ("Chronocare (R)" 100mg) Release date December 28, 2022 [Overview of Notification] Excerpt from Notification Form I The cause of fatigue is the oxidative stress caused by continued overactivity, and the oxidative stress in the body damages the cells, resulting in fatigue. In addition, oxidative stress causes disturbance of autonomic nerves. When the autonomic nerves are disturbed and the function of the parasympathetic nerves deteriorates, recovery from fatigue is delayed even during rest. Since black soybean polyphenol has a high antioxidant effect, it is expected that it will suppress the oxidative stress caused by fatigue and reduce the feeling of fatigue. For healthy adults, we evaluated papers comparing the effect of black soy polyphenol intake on transient fatigue caused by display work such as PCs and smartphones with a placebo. In the accepted paper, healthy men and women between the ages of 20 and 65 were given 58mg/day of black soybean polyphenols for 4 weeks. This review suggests that oral intake of 58mg/day of black soybean polyphenols is expected to have the function of reducing transient fatigue caused by display work on personal computers and smartphones. 【Glossary】 ・Proanthocyanidin: The main component of black soybean polyphenols. It belongs to the flavan-3-ol group of flavonoids and exists as a condensate of epicatechin or catechin. ・SR: Systematic review. A review article summarizing the publication information of multiple clinical studies. It is adopted as one of the notification methods for the food function labeling system. • Placebo: Used as a control for black soy polyphenols. A capsule containing dextrin instead of black soybean polyphenol. ・VAS questionnaire: Questionnaire by Visual Analogue Scale. A method used to assess the intensity of certain sensations and emotions, such as pain. -Contact information- Fujicco Co., Ltd.
