GREEN FORESTERS Co., Ltd. Commencement of joint demonstration of forest development that takes biodiversity into consideration

GREEN FORESTERS Co., Ltd.
Commencement of Joint Demonstration Concerning Forest Creation with Consideration for Biodiversity
Purchasing and maintaining forests ourselves, aiming to promote carbon offsets and biodiversity conservation

ENEOS Holdings Co., Ltd. (Representative Director: Takeshi Saito, hereinafter “ENEOS”) and GREEN FORESTERS Co., Ltd. (Representative Director: Teruhiro Nakai, hereinafter “GREEN FORESTERS”) have entered into a joint research agreement on forest development that takes biodiversity into consideration. (hereinafter referred to as the “Agreement”) has been concluded.
In Japan, abandoned forests*1 and undeveloped forests*2 are occurring due to factors such as the long-term decline and slump in lumber prices and the shortage of human resources for planting and
cultivating trees. While expectations are rising for the multifaceted functions of forests, insufficient management and utilization of forests has become an issue.
The ENEOS Group’s long-term vision is to “contribute to a low-carbon, recycling-oriented society” and aims to build services that create unprecedented value through innovative businesses. As part of this, we have also participated in projects related to forests, and have promoted the creation of carbon credits mainly through forest management activities *3 .
GREEN FORESTERS has developed “Aobagumi*4”, which conducts
afforestation and nurturing on its own, purchases undeveloped forest land, and undertakes initiatives to regenerate forests in
consideration of biodiversity.
The two companies will conclude this agreement and conduct joint demonstrations related to forest development with the aim of establishing a system for acquiring forests, reforestation, and increasing the amount of greenhouse gas absorption. In the future, we will purchase unfinished afforestation land, mainly in the northern Kanto and Koshinetsu regions, and aim to establish a scheme for regenerating abandoned unfinished afforestation land while
demonstrating forest creation using a variety of tree species. In addition, through this demonstration, we will contribute to a low-carbon, recycling-oriented society and accelerate forest environment conservation in Japan.
*1 Forests in which man-made forests, etc. that were planted in the past have not been managed.
*2 A state in which reforestation cannot be implemented after felling and the forest has not returned to the forest.
*3 Announced on January 18, 2022 Regarding the conclusion of a partnership agreement for the realization of a decarbonized society that utilizes forests
