Demonstration experiment for introducing autonomous mobility “iino type-S712” in Kobe Sannomiya
-Public road compatible model developed in anticipation of the revision of the Road Traffic Law-
Gekidan Iino GK (100% subsidiary of Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc.) will conduct a public road demonstration experiment of the autonomous mobility “iino type-S712” from January 27th (Friday) to 29th (Sunday), 2023 in the Sannomiya Chuo-dori underground passage. (Sampochica). In anticipation of the revision of the Road Traffic Law next year, the introduction of automated driving technology is in full swing in various places, and this will be our first public road run.
This demonstration experiment will be conducted in cooperation with Kobe City, which is promoting pedestrian-centered urban development (walkable city) in the Sannomiya area, and is one of the initiatives aimed at improving pedestrian mobility and creating bustle.
The “iino type-S712” is a model developed in accordance with the “remotely controlled compact car” standard in the revised Road Traffic Act, and is aimed at driving on public roads. In February 2022, the same model was tested on private property in Sannomiya. This time, the second time, we will verify driving safety on public roads and coexistence with pedestrians for social implementation.
Driving demonstration assuming future pedestrian traffic conditions Pedestrian traffic conditions on decks around Sannomiya Station, where the introduction of mobility in the future is being considered, will be reproduced in the underground passages at certain times of the day, and driving demonstrations will be conducted. By driving approximately 150m at a speed of 5km/h or less while detecting obstacles with sensors on the front and rear of the vehicle, we will identify issues in coexistence with pedestrians in autonomous mobility in crowded environments.

The only “remote-controlled compact car” standard in Japan that allows multiple people to ride while standing
The features of the “iino type-S712” are that you can ride with your family and friends, and that your eye level is almost the same as when you are standing.
In contrast to the general “remote-controlled compact car” standard mobility that can seat one person, the “iino type-S712” can
accommodate up to three people. You can ride with your family and friends on the deck of the station or around town.
In addition, since the height of the line of sight is almost the same as when standing, it is easier to communicate with people around you. The “iino type-S712” is currently a “remotely controlled compact car” standard, and is the only mobility vehicle in Japan that is expected to be capable of driving on public roads. In this demonstration experiment, in accordance with the “Road use permission standards related to public road demonstration experiments of automatic driving”, we have received a safety standard relaxation certification for “class 1 motorized bicycles” and will run with a license plate. It will be the first time in Japan that this type of mobility will run on public roads. (according to our research)
