■ E-mail, the biggest intrusion route for cyberattacks, diversifying malware At first, cyberattacks were carried out for fun and criminals, but in recent years, the number of cases has increased as they are organized. By infecting malware such as “ransomware”, which is still rampant, the main purpose was to lose social trust, such as demanding money, illegally acquiring and misusing personal information, and targeting specific organizations.
In particular, “email”, which is an important means of communication in business, has become the largest intrusion route for malware into companies and organizations. There is also a survey report stating that “91% of cyberattacks are caused by e-mail,” and there is no end to the damage caused by malware infections that are becoming more diverse and sophisticated.
■ Damage caused by “Business Email Compromise (BEC)” becomes more serious year by year
Business Email Compromise (BEC) is one of the most serious types of cyberattacks targeting email. Business email compromise uses a method of sending bogus emails to an organization or company to trick employees into transferring money to an account prepared by the attacker.
It is a highly dangerous threat that has been ranked high every year since 2018 in the “Top 10 Information Security Threats” published by the Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA) every year. In 2022, IPA continues to raise awareness, such as launching a special page for business email compromise (BEC) countermeasures.
■Importance of “email security” to be understood again
In recent years, the use of cloud email services such as “Microsoft 365” and “Gmail” has expanded rapidly, increasing the convenience and productivity of employees. Many of these cloud-based email services have standard security features, but that alone is not enough. There is a demand for countermeasures to prevent security incidents, such as understanding the security level of the organization and supplementing the deficiencies without relying only on the functions of the provided services.
■ Explain how to implement efficient security measures for “Office 365” and “Gmail”
So how can you improve your email security?
In this seminar, we will explain the importance of strengthening security in cloud-based email services such as Microsoft 365 and Gmail. After that, we will introduce “Cloudflare Area 1” as a specific solution and explain the smooth introduction and operation method including PoC.
If you feel uneasy about measures against business email compromise and targeted email attacks, please join us.
