In order to strengthen the competitiveness of Japan’s agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and food industries, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is inviting submissions for JAS establishment and international standardization from today until February 28 (Tuesday).

Standards and certifications (JAS, international standards, etc.) for food and agricultural, forestry and fishery products are intended to “visualize” the quality, technology and efforts of products and businesses. In particular, in overseas markets where food cultures and business practices are different, it is important to establish and utilize strategic standards and certifications in order to appeal the quality and characteristics of products to trading partners who do not know the products.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries appeals to the efforts of business operators and production areas, and in order to strengthen the competitiveness of Japan’s agriculture, forestry, fisheries and food industries, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is calling for themes to work on, focusing on the establishment of JAS and international standards that will contribute to the expansion of exports. Proposal requirements
Proposed themes fall under any of the following, as the government should support the enactment of JAS or international standardization. (1) Areas that can be cited in domestic and foreign regulations, such as food distribution and food labeling
(2) Fields directly linked to strengthening the competitiveness of the industry as a whole, or fields directly linked to a decline in the competitiveness of the industry as a whole due to non-standardization efforts
(3) Areas expected to have ripple effects on society and the economy, such as the creation of new markets and the improvement of export performance
