In the same project, students from Aichi Gakusen Junior College will sell bags produced using Green Up Cycle (R) ︎ sheets at the
limited-time corner of “Luck Rack Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku”. ■ “Sustainable industry-academia collaboration project” that gives new value to waste clothing
By collaborating with companies and schools that have worked in different ways to solve the problem of clothing disposal, such as “not throwing away”, “recycling”, and “reselling”, we will give new added value to waste clothing and reuse it. A project that aims to At Green Up Cycle (R)︎, we are upcycling clothing waste with the goals of “not burning,” “not burying,” and “semi-permanently.”
There are methods to recycle single materials such as polyester and wool, but mixed materials, which are the mainstream of clothing today, cannot be disassembled into single materials and are difficult to reuse. As a result, more than 500,000 tons of clothing waste is generated annually in Japan alone, but the current situation is that more than 90% of this has no choice but to be “burned” or “buried”. Green Up Cycle (R)︎ is a new sheet and panel by defibrating, felting, and compressing a large amount of clothing waste, including not only single materials but also mixed materials, using a uniquely designed manufacturing technology. By reusing the recycled material as a product, we have realized upcycling of clothing waste. In addition, since no adhesive is used, it is possible to recirculate products, sheets, and panels that are no longer needed after use.
This time, we were able to understand and adopt the characteristics of Green Up Cycle (R) as a material, and we were able to disseminate actual efforts at Luck Luck Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku as an “industry-academia collaboration sustainable project”.
We will continue to actively participate in various initiatives of companies and organizations that support Green Up Cycle (R). Luck Luck Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku
