About the new work
For Hiroaki Umeda, dance and the body are phenomena.
The phenomenon is caused by the connection with various things. Organic and fluid graphic images using physics simulation and the body are connected by movement.
This work, which expands the body and disappears at the same time, is a presentation of Umeda’s body and movement, and how to view it. Performance overview

Profile of Hiroaki Umeda
Photo: Aya Tamura
A choreographer, dancer, and visual artist from Tokyo. After studying photography, he expanded his interest in physical expression, independently pursuing cross-disciplinary dance art that incorporates visual art and digital expression without being bound by a specific method. He began presenting his works in 2000, and in 2002 he performed “while going to a condition” at the Yokohama Dance Collection, which received international acclaim. He presents installation works that focus on bodily sensations. Also involved in sound, video, and lighting design, Umeda’s work, which fuses creative movements with digital technology, is highly regarded in the context of visual art.
In April 2022, he was appointed as the first Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No. 1 choreographer for Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No. 1, one of Japan’s leading dance bases, and will create, perform, and popularize dance with new ideas.
